Folks,

Just wondering if the new GE order from Ferromex is for ES44AC's (since lack of Tier 4 reqs for Mexico) or has GE discontinued the older ET44AC and all are ES44ACs?

I expected more but we must be realistic, they are well for the mexican emission standards. 

Confirmed 37 locomotives for Ferromex and 13 for Ferrosur of GE, now i'm only waiting for some pictures of them at Erie, PA or Fort Worth Tx

They will be ES44ACs. I doubt FXE has many emissions credits if any at all, so they will be restricted to Mexico.

BTW, BNSF must have had a lot of emissions credits because they have recieved a lot of credit ES44C4s, including some delivered last month that are in the 4200 series.

Yes there might be coming 50 ge engines for Ferromex this year. We still dont know if they will be tier 4 or t4cu.
Has somebody here confirmed The engine model?

The determinant will be if Ferromex intends the engines to operate in the US.

Tier 4 regs require all locomotives constructed after January 1, 2015 to comply or not run in the US.

CN purchased an order of Tier 3 compliant ES44ACs in earlly 2015 that were not "Tier 4 Credit" units, and according to various publications including Trains Magazine, those units are restricted to use in Canada.

 

 

To add a bit they are numbered CN 2951-2975, and have stickers all over the cab interior stating they are only to be used in Canada.  Currently they are based out of Prince George, BC and are generally used on coal trains from Alberta mines to Vancouver and Prince Rupert, or on mixed freights (and even locals!) on the ex-BC Rail lines.  These assignments keep them within Canada, but I have a feeling if CN had ordered more they would have begun finding their way onto international through trains, and this would have caused delays and unnecesarry power swaps, so that's why CN limited the order to 25 and then started buying Tier 4 units.

EMD built some SD70ACe-P6 locomotives to Tier3 emissions for KCSdeM that cannot operate in the US also. Well they can cross the border just far enough to make interchange.

I have seen Ferromex engines operating in the US.  Don't know if current regulations require 'run through imports' to be T4 compliant or not.

GE still builds AC44s for non North American countries so anything is possible.
