Thanks YoHo1975.  We are very aware of how easy it is for a movement like this to go sideways.  I'm not sleeping well this week!

 

The billing for the movement are split so UP and BNSF are separate.  It is currently billed to BNSF at Stockton.  I'd like to think they won't have any trouble figuring out that routing, but you never know.

The 5057 made it to Roseville yesterday afternoon.  Some photos of the trip from Portola are on the 5057 blog.

I'll be on the lookout for it tomorrow in the yard Given the comedy of errors that was the move of the SP SD9 a month or so ago, I would not make any bets on when it leaves roseville nor whether the routing you just gave remains accurate. The SD9 spent 2 weeks in Roseville, because the brakeline repairs at portola weren't sufficient and then they couldn't figure out how to route her.

An old, classic U-boat is taking a big step toward being cosmetically restored and preserved in its 'home' territory.

 

This morning Milwaukee Road U25B 5057 has started its trip from the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola, CA to the Pend Oreille Valley Railroad (POVA) shop in Usk, WA on the former Milwaukee Road Metaline Falls branch.

 

The Union Pacific is taking the 5057 to its large Roseville Yard near Sacramento, CA. From there it will go on a train to Stockton, CA and be interchanged to the BNSF. BNSF will then haul it north via the Inside Gateway route through eastern Oregon, Pasco, WA and Spokane, WA, to be interchanged with the Pend Oreille Valley Railroad at Sandpoint, ID.

 

Cascade Rail Foundation, owner of the 5057, will be undertaking the restoration phase of the project at the POVA shop as quickly as fundraising will support it. Once it is restored, the plan is to move it to South Cle Elum, WA, where Cascade Rail Foundation is working with Washington State Parks to develop and operate an interpretive center in the former Milwaukee Road rail yard there.
