EMD will produce SD70ACe-BB to narrow gauge RR in Brazil
Posted by pedrop on Thursday, October 23, 2014 10:08 AM

EMD plant in Sete Lagoas, MG Brazil announced the new model to be produced in 2015, the narrow gauge version of SD70ACe on BB-BB trucks called SD70ACe-BB. The plant is currently producing SD70ACe/45 and GT46ACe to the railroads in Brazil. Different from the SD70ACe in North America, the SD70ACe/45 has a longer body and a three fans radiator section since it uses the same car body of the SD80ACe produced by EMD plant in London, Canada to Vale mining in Brazil.

Attached is the pdf file of the technical data of the SD70ACe/45.

Thanks Wizlish. My PC at the office did not allow me to add the pic and the pdf file directly here.

(You can see the span bolsters in the color version!)

Interesting to note the low clearance cab. Earlier drafts posted here had the standard EMD wide cab.

Yes, at first EMD tried to offer an model with span bolster under the standard SD70ACe, but the railroads that have narrow tunnels asked for a low clearance body and they developed this model. VLI ordered 45 units to replace the old SD40´s that run on BB trucks.

This isn't the earlier draft of the SD70ACe/45 with the 8-axle option, this is a completely new model. AFAIK ALL is still getting the 8-axle SD70ACe/45s for use on lines that can handle USDM loading gauge locomotives.

Thanks, I need to find a good source for South American locomotive news. I hope this isn't the end for the DDM45s.

Unfortunately, VLI asked the SD70ACe-BB to retire all DDM and SD40´s in its fleet. Maybe they will go back to Vale or to be sold to ALL.
