Could it be as well that they are DC traction and most all operators in northern states recognize the problems of DC and all operators seeing almost all US deliveries are AC ?
Neither of the diesel powerplant options offered in the earlier MP models is Tier IV compliant, so the commuter lines can't order them from here on out,period..
The 645 will never be Tier IV compliant, the 710 may be (and EMD is hoping and praying that they can get it to be). The locomotives Wabtec is delivering to MBTA right now use the GE GEVO engine which will be available as a Tier IV in the near future.
