That's them. They are at the head of the line next to an abandoned factory. They aren't very far from the Norfolk Southern main line in Gastonia.

Modeling in N scale: Rock Island freight and passenger, with a touch of the following; Wabash Cannon Ball, CB&Q passenger, and ATSF freight and passenger. I played in Peoria (Heights).
Those units are C40-8Ms. I have no further information. Those are rather modern, useful units, so I am surprised to see them stored.

I normally visit Model Railroaders discussion boards but I feel this question better fits here. I'm driving to a plastic model builders club, in Gastonia, NC, and as I cross the old Piedmont and Northern I see what looks like a dead line going down the siding near an abandoned factory. I see 3 Q NS & L with 6 digit markings, an Indiana Southern, some beat up CN engines, an ex Conrail, and something in an an old CB&Q red and gray but looks much newer. Most appear to be SD40 types. The QNS&L have 6 axles but kind of look like a cross between a FP45 and a Dash 8 40CW. All seem to have their builders plates removed and look to have suffered some vandalism. What is the P&N doing with these? Are they storing them for someone or are they going to try to combine them all and get a few good locomotives out of them? All numbers start with AEX and have five and six digit numbers.
