It seems that the fate of this former CONRAIL (#6960) SD40-2 is most likely sealed:
..awaiting scrapper(?)
It would be cool if they gave/sold crazy 8's to a muesum, but CSX might see that locomotive as a symbol of an embarrassing incident that they wish would be forgotten. Personally if I was the CEO, I would see I muesums would want to buy locomotives, and only scrap then if the locomotive wasn't wanted. It is always sad when a locomotive meets te scrappers torch.
The #8888 is not being scrapped. It is stored and will eventually be used as a core unit in the SD40-3 program once it resumes.
