I took a road trip in May and went through Chadron, Nebraska to photograph units of the Nebraska Northwestern (NNW) as well as the Nebkota Ry. I've been unable to find references on two of the locomotives there:
Can someone confirm that NNW 6398 is indeed the former BNSF SD40-2 #6398 (they certainly look alike on the details)? Secondly, the yellow 44-tonner #311 was sitting on the NNW roundhouse lead there in Chadron. Does anyone know if this is the shop switcher for the NNW or is it from some local grain elevator or industrial unit? It appears to be recently re-painted - note the paint on even the coupler. Can anyone provide a background or origin on this unit? Thanks! Bill
