Withers Publishing, known for the excellent "Diesel Era" Magazine, have in recent years been publishing An anual book that documents BNSF's roster in great detail. The latest version is for 2011-2012 but I think an updated edition is a strong possibility in the near future:

There may not be a free internet resource for the depth of information you are seeking..

Looking for an accurate and up to date to BNSF locomotive roster

This source is terribly inaccurate so I was hoping to be pointed to something that is correct to get a more accurate picture of their current roster.

For instance it shows two locomotives that have been donated for several years now as still on the active roster. The Beep, a 1970's era Santa Fe repowering job of a Baldwin switcher, and GP9 1685 that gained some notoriety for its long career working in Manitoba since its birth (And got an excellent story a decade or so ago when it was repainted into BNSF colors). If they can't get something fairly high profile like the unique  Beep whose storage due to the recession and then donation to a museum four years ago got a lot of mention in the railfan world right, it lends little credibility to the accuracy of the rest of it for run of the mill units like SD40-2's.

And there are lots of suspect entries like 22 Santa Fe GP7's and 1 Burlington Northern GP9B that I highly doubt are still rostered in 2013 let alone active like claimed. And the sole SW1 listed that was a shop switcher on the BN for years appears to have been sold to an industrial firm back in June of 2001.

Yet here it is in June of 2013 with a roster updated less than a week ago and she's shown as still on it 12 years after leaving the roster.
