Export Locomotives by EMD/GMDL
Posted by ECryer on Monday, April 30, 2012 4:28 PM

When a locomotive is produced by EMD/GMDL, it has a model name such as GT22C or JL8 and many other names.  After the locomotive leaves the North America shores it seems to lose it's name and takes on some other nomenclature such as class.  Is there a cross reference list available tying the EMD/GMDL name to the locomotives' new nomenclature?

Only if you're willing to compile your own list.  Class designations on overseas railroads are comparable to class designations on North American roads in the early diesel era of the 1950's-1960's.  Every road has its own system.  Also keep in mind that overseas railroads also have locomotives from other builders such as Alstom, English Electric, etc.

Larry Russell's EMD Export website is a useful starting point;
