Look around on eBay for operator manuals.  ALCO, Baldwin, Lima and EMD all provided manuals like the same link provided by OLTMANND.  I have several in my collection I picked up in the mid 70's at swap meets.  Think of them as the 'owner's manual' vs a shop/repair manual.

You can even find steam manuals as well as there self-help training manuals via mail-order back in the day (these from an old family friend who was a retired Erie fireman.)

Maybe someone can comment if these type of operator manual are still made available for modern power.

Thank you.

You are looking for the "general arrangement" drawing.  You might hit paydirt searching for that.  Just quickly, I did a google search and came up with this

Hi Guys

I was wondering if anybody might have a link that shows diagrams of diesel locomotives ( basically whats under the hood ) and might show different parts and what exactly they do? kind of like one of those cut away pictures.

Thanks

Jeremy
