Difference between the two will depend on track conditions.   Rain, leaves, etc.

I would think that the starting tractive effort would be similar unless the traction motors have been upgraded from D77 to D78 for example.

However, the load hauling ability will be improved by the better response of the electronic wheel slip system.

What's an SD49-2?  You mean SD40-2?  I would suspect they're pretty close as the wheel slip control is the same.

Is the starting tractive effort better on sn SD40-3 over an original SD49-2 because of computer controled wheel slip and if so what is it?
