GE's selling to Kazahkstan; GE's selling to Brazil; GE's selling to Britain; GE's selling to South Africa; GE's selling to the marine industry, replacing EMDs. Etc., etc., etc. . . . . Good for them!  WHERE'S EMD?

Spain, Australia, France, Norway, no big orders but they are dribbling in. The order from South Africa is a nice one for GE, but the Chinese order is quite small (GE's part that is). As for Britain, I don't see any more orders in the next year or so. I don't know if you saw the story or not but GE was pushing for Amtrak to get some new diesels, they were talking about 50 or so locomotives, and the story was that 50 for Amtrak would be worth more to GE than a recent re-order from China for kits for 300 more locomotives.

The JS37ACi sale to Freightliner in the UK was a response to EMD's sales of the JT42CW (Class 66) to the UK and much of the rest of the European Community.  EMD may not have been blowing its horn as loudly as GE but it is making the sales.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

The P42 no longer meets FRA crash compliance standards nor does it meet Tier II emissions requirements. GE has designed a new passenger locomotive which will have an Evolution series engine. They have not built a demonstrator yet but artist's depiction show it will look like a Genesis unit but with a redesigned nose......

Do you know where I can find a picture of this locomotive?  I actually didn't know that the P42 no longer met crash compliance standards.  Did that decision have anything to do with that crash near Chicago where the P42 slammed into the back of an NS freight?

 There is an artist's conception of the locomotive in the book "General Electric's Evolution Series Locomotives". At one point there was an illustration online on a page related to industrial designer Cesar Vergara (stylist of the Genesis,Acela ect.), but I haven't been able to find it of late...

 The crash standards have evolved for a variety of reasons and the Genesis series were not the only locomotives affected. The EMD F59 series does not meet current standards either. Note that that does not ban older locomotives but means anything built now has to meet the regulations..
