SD90/43Mac's in service on Roseville sub recently

 With many of the new Gevo's sidelined in Roseville and other places due to the turbo shaft replacements, the SD90/43Mac's are being used on the Roseville sub.   Unlike the GE's that have the front door window covered or eliminated like the new ones, these units still have the window in the door.

This is an eastbound at Newcastle CA.

They're still in their original as-delivered scheme.  Some even have the "We Will Deliver" slogan.  I wonder if any SD90/43MACs have been repainted with UP's Wings on the nose?

 

One unit was repainted after a bad wreck and received the wings on the nose.   Kato made a model after that particular number but it skips my memory at this time.   Most of these units have just been used on coal trains for almost their entire service life so far and just keep running.

They've been very common the past couple of years on international trains between Hinkle, OR, and Eastport, ID, and have even bumped the SD40-2s and SD70Ms which, up until recently, ruled on the domestic Hinkle, OR/Spokane, WA trains.

Good to know.  We have been seeing them on grain trains for a few months now and recently on most everything.  They are used as DPU's and leading locomotives on DPU's as the one in the picture.  It had four units midtrain and one more on the end.  Good to see the older units still working and doing a good job of it. 

The SD40-2's are not used much now in California but we do have a few SD60M's running around lately.

GEVO THE TURBO SHAFT FAILURE PROBLEM CAN BE CORECTED. BUT HOW WELL IS THE REST OF THE ENGINE STANDING UP. WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE TO THE CAST BLOCK.GMs FABRICATED BLOCK COULD BE REWORKED MANY TIMES.BEING A EMD FAN. I LIKE THE GEVO POWER PACK. JUST WONDER HOW IT STANDS UP.

Not just to Eastport; they generally continue on through Cranbrook and east via the Crowsnest Pass to at least Lethbridge, Alberta.  Sometimes one will stray up into Calgary.
