bubbajustin and on the newer EMD's before the radiators. SD70ACE/M-2
Behind the radiators.
The road to to success is always under construction. _____________________________________________________________________________ When the going gets tough, the tough use duct tape.
On GE locomotives, they're at the top of the electrical cabinet, ahead of the prime mover. Look for two square shaped vents. On EMD locomotives, for the SD50-SD70M/MAC, they're ahead of the electrical cabinet, aft of the cab. On the SD70ACe/M-2 as well as SD80 and 90 series, they're the vents in the hood behind where the radiator 'wings' are.
In the above image, note that the -8/-9 series GEs have their dynamic brakes located ahead of the door in the electrical cabinet as opposed to behind it in the image above. This is also a spotting feature of a -9 vs an AC4400. All ES44 series have these vents in the same location.
Where are the dynamic brake grids on newer locomotives...or do they have any?
