Also a reason Baldwin comparatively didn't last long in the diesel market I am guessing.

One reason so many Baldwins were rebuilt with EMD innards I suspect.

I once saw a train on the SP with 3 locos from3 builders They were, in order,U25B,S12,GP35.Since the Baldwin was in the middle a crew in each loco was needed!

Ride Amtrak. Cats Rule, Dogs Drool.

Most Baldwins were built with air throttles and consequently could only MU with other air-throttle Baldwins.  Some Baldwins were built with electric throttles and many were rebuilt as such.  Some early FM's were also built with air throttles.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Balwins and later Baldwin Lima Hamiltions were could ONLY BE MU'ed to another Baldwin or BLH product due to their UNIQUE air controlled Governors and throttles.  Emd Alco FM and GE all use a Electical control system.

Always at war with those that think OTR trucking is EASY.
