In Houston at Englewood Yard UP has about 40 or so engines just sitting there. North of Houston in Spring they have about 30 or so just parked. 2 of them at Englewood are hard to find tunnel motor SD-40T-2's and they are using a 3rd for small local work between the yard in Spring and Gulf States Toyota about 2 miles south of the yard. Many of the stored engines are older units but there are a few newer engines in the mix as well.
ON THE DISCCUSSION FORUM, THEY SAID THE UP WAS STORING ENGINES AT ROSEVILLE, YOU CLICK ON THAT THREAD, AND YOU GET SIX AXLE TANK CARS. ???? I'M CURRENTLY NEAR BARSTOW CA.,AND I KNOW BNSF IS STORING UNITS HERE. THE SHOPS MUST BE FULL, CAUSE THEIR DROPPING OFF "DEAD" POWER, AT COOL WATER SIDING EAST OF TOWN, AND WEST BOUND LOCALS PICK THEM UP WHEN THEY HAVE ROOM AT THE ENGINE HOUSE
With the downturn of business at the GM plant in Janesville, UP has begun to store older engines at the south Janesville Yard and at last count 28 units were being stored with reportedly a dozen more on the way. Mostly older GE's C40's & 41's along with some SD60' and even an old nose bell SD40. Units can be seen for the Hwy 11 overpass west of Interstate 94/39, however there is no parking or stopping on the overpass. All the units are stored on one track on the west side of the yard.
