UP Locomotives Color

goodness me,what an ugly paint scheme i prefer the armour yellow that adorns one of my favorite railroads.in my opinion they should stick with the regular paint scheme of armour yellow at least it is not too much of an eye sore.

I'm going to lean to the possibility that it is real and was a mistake. The RC control cabs (UPY 100 series) are painted similarly.  http://utahrails.net/all-time/upy-ccrcl.php

It was a mistake by CEECO in Tacoma, WA from a repainted SP locomotive. That is how they are painted first, then it should have been masked, and the yellow applied. For some reason CEECO stopped at this point and sent it back to the UP. It ran around for a while until the UP sent it back to have CEECO complete the job the UP paid for. The gray is the first color applied that isn't primer.

There's a strong possibility that this color scheme doesn't exist at all. Just a couple of years ago someone photoshopped a UP AC4400CW in this same exact manner, except for a red frame stripe instead of yellow. It was a wedge shot. It got lots of hits on RRpicturearchives or Railpictures.net or something. Not gonna put money on it, but I think it's a hoax.

   I wonder if that isn't a loco still in primer, like the ones NS had delivered a few years back. There was a big shortage of power, and they took delivery with the understanding that NS would paint the engines when they had some down time. Theirs were more of a greenish grey, but that is the only reason I could imagine that it would be that color.

Sometimes new locos are sent from the builder to the owner in primer.I think that the markings are required by regulations.   ??

Thats a weird paint job.  It should be Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Grey, the same colors that Union Pacific'c first diesels came painted in.

I was wondering about the color of the locomotive. It's this was a tradition? I never seen this color before...
