Headlights on Locomotives?????

That I can't speak too though I would think the difference would be minimal. That's just the Engineer (Electrical not train) in me talking though, so I will defer to those that know.

I just wondering what is the different in having the headlights on top versus on the nose? Do you have a better view at night? Tunnels? Short distance?
