Off Line Motive Power @ Wichita
Posted by SFbrkmn on Friday, March 26, 2010 3:59 PM

Several ex BN SD40's which have since held FURX reporting marks, have been delivered to the Kansas & Oklahoma at Wichita for work at the KO (ex KCMO, SF) shops. One of the units has been renumbered and released as 4138 and is up and running on the South Kansas & Oklahoma nightly Windfield-Wichita turn.

There is a trackage rights on BNSF that passes by the Derby area in the middle of the day  ( I have seen it between about 10Am and 1 PM, on several occasions.   Each time there was a UP unit and a FUREX unit and a train of something like twenty to twenty-five cars.  Is this the train you are referencing?

Have also seen an all UP powered train (possibly ethanol tankers) down in the Belle Plaine area once or twice, I kind of thought might have originated around the Wellington area.  But without a scanner these are pure gusses.Blindfold

During the day the UP local runs from Wichita making either a Winfield and sometimes Ark City turn. The KO local from winfield runs at night stopping at Wassle street switching Cornejo & sons, and then onto Wichita and return. I guess I havent noticed an ethanol train running all UP power into or out of Wellington, The only trains I know of that run UP power would be the run throughs form Wichita through Ark City on there way to Fort Worth, but they wouldnt end up in Belle Plaine.

I guess I gave the wrong impression. I meant to say my observations were as traffic was passing throught Belle Plaine, we only have one company here that receives grain by rail, gthey process seeds for bird feed. The sidings here are usually only for MOW equipment and an occassional down locomotive.
