Great news from Rockhill Furnace. Mikado #16 emerged from the roundhouse yesterday under full steam for the first time since revenue service ceased in 1956. Completely refurbished and clean as a whistle (and it did whistle). #16 was the the first of the final 3 mikes built by Baldwin and were the largest, heaviest locomotives in the fleet. A slightly unusual feature of these last 3 engines is the use of Southern valve gear instad of the more common Walshaerts type. A lot of fans are celebrating. Here's a video of the event
