I am with the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum (PRSM). I am leading a project to reupholster the seats in UP576 https://www.psrm.org/trains/passenger/up-576/ . The 1931 Pullman was modernized in 1948 to the current configuration. I have a high quality sample of the seat fabric used https://1drv.ms/u/s!AiIGHVAwHEVHxXPrnQeN6dTqwqMD?e=A6HNr6. Seems likely that UP would have used this fabric across all coaches modernized in the time period but I have no confirming reference. Can anyone comment on this? Anyone recognize this fabric and/or know the fabric name as used in the late 40's time frame? Thank you.
Ask this on the RyPN 'Interchange' -- there are car restoration specialists and enthusiasts over there who may even know a source to replicate that fabric.

Car has a predominately red tartan plad, with black panels around the edges of both the seat and the seat back.
As I recall from an article in Hemmings Classic Cars, SMS will run off however many yards of fabric you need if you send them an unfaded sample. I imagine a train car would take a LOT of fabric which I would think they would be glad to do. It's worth asking.
And before placing the order, check weith other museums with ex-UP coaches to se if a combined order for several cars is possible.

Thank you for your interest in this topic. At this point (June 1, 2022), (1) I am in discussions with a mill who claim they can produce high quality reproduction of original. I do not have a quoted price at this point but it will likely be in excess of $200 per yard. Will come back to this post thread when I have more details. (2) I have just started to search UP print ad from late 40's and early 50's. So far, I found one post card ad with the exact same fabric which I have at PSRM. Likely this fabric used for years by UP across all passenger seats but I have no proof at this point. If you are aware of any ads with seats, I would appreciate link to source. Thank you.
