Homewood Illinois Rail Park To be Dismantled
Posted by Blackhawk NRHS on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 12:36 PM

According to a report in the Homewood-Flossmoor Chronicle, the renovation of the Homewood, Illinois Amtrak and Metra station will require the moving of Illinois Centrqal GP10 #8408 and Illinois Central wide-vision caboose #9426, that were placed in the rail park just north of the Amtrak station back on March 25, 2007.

The new Amtrak A.D.A.-compliant pedestrian ramp to the tunnel under the tracks will displace about 50 Metra parking spaces on the south lot. To compensate, the engine and caboose will be moved north to allow 50 new Metra parking spaces to be added to the north lot. Homewood's mayor has advocated for letting the rail park to remain as is, but Metra's need for parking spaces superceeded his request.
