Just some additional information on the American steam railways efforts to rebuild the 2100. Goggle American steam railway or fire up 2100. Thier is a short update and a video showing the work  on the locomotive and  some neat shots of the interior  of the former B & O roundhouse. It's worth your time.

Thanks penny, your a  fellow Clevelander to I see. I'm sure you been down to  the roundhouse off west 3rd Street and seen the work that had been done on the 2100. It's awesome to walk into a cathedral built for steam locomotives ( saved by the Midwest railroad historical  society) and watch the rebirth of the locomotive.

Let's hope that  the 2100  project continues to move forward and one day soon, she will back out her stall, onto the turntable and stretches her legs in the heart of the Cleveland  flats,  blasts from her whistle echoing in the valley where steam  truely was once king. David Morgan would be proud.

Cleveland rocks!!!!

Might be a true statement. Regardless of the time frame, she is in a good spot and in good hands. And that's a real good thing.

Numbers 2100, 1309 and 4014 have crews designated to work on them.  I would guess that the Reading & Northern people only get to work on 2102 when all the other things they have do to keep this regional railroad running are done.

That my be very true my friend, but the group in Cleveland restoring the 2100 in  is  very transparent. They keep thier members and the public very informed on thier monthly progress.

Each month's work that  has been completed, and up coming work scheduled is out line in a monthly up date.   Set backs and findings of the over all  condition of what they find during inspection are also included.  Neat, simple  honest and transparent. No false completion  dates, only progress reports.

Likewise, the union Pacific was pretty transparent with the 4014.

I realize that the 2102 is a project under taken by a private company with no obligations to report any kind if news. And that is ok.

But I have often found that transparency drives interest and generates good will.

Certainly this was the case with 4014. The project genetarated  a tremendous amount of publicly for the railroad in the markets it operates in and world wide.

The Maryland senic railroad had been pretty up front with the 1309

Thank you for your perspective on these kinds of projects, but as you know, each organization has thier own goals, and a path to obtain them. Thier are no rights or wrong.

Let's hope these group can complete thier projects, so the 2100, 2102 and the 1309 can take there places in the world of operational steamers.

Anything on the 1309 other than the above response.

They've learned their lesson; nothing but 'the above response'.

It'll be done when it's done, and tested when it's tested, and in service when it's in service.  The good news is that I'm reasonably sure all three things will in fact happen, which was not certain a year or so ago.

Watch RyPN for more details than you're likely to see here.

As far as I know it's still a "work in progress" at the Reading and Northern shops.

It'll be ready when it's ready.  That's all there is to it.  Gotta be patient.
