Local reports suggest the best views were those from the following helicopter.
The run was only ten miles or so from Tollerton to York and the trains stopped about half way for photos at "The Sidings", a pub with accommodation in old passenger cars adjacent to the line, providing access for many photographers. I imagine many had a drink or two before or after.
That stop was a success but the Class 800 "Azuma" left the line up ahead of the other trains. The remaining three trains, 4472, a Mk 4 +91 set and an HST set continued on to York. This hadn't been advertised, although was always in the timetable, so people waiting south of "The Sidings" saw only three trains together (although they would have seen the Class 800 run ahead.)
It appears that the staggered line up, both of the four trains and the three trains was arranged so that all of the trains were always visible from the side with the light for optimum photography, an aspect not always considered in these things.
