Unfortunately, NYC 3001's future may be sealed due to the complexity of the details of who owns/leases it, what it would be allowed to do in the future, etc.  Unless all of the agreements surrounding the 3001 are eased, no one will give up the extraordinary amount of money needed to get it running.

Isn't it amazing what an all volunteer group can accomplish in a very short time!?

Yes, and look at what the 2100 people are accomplishing, too!

(Now, what can we arrange for NYC 3001, and perhaps later for Dixie 546...)

May want to check your facts. 765 isn't due for 1472 day until 2019.  They replaced tubes Over the winter but the full 1472 is much more involved than just replacing some tubes.

There is no reason to do it early just for fun (unless your the UP steam program and fill your boiler full of mud)

True, FWRHS did not do a full 1472, but did part of one.  The plan is to break it up into sections so they don't have a long downtime - in other words, so they don't miss an excursion season.

765's tubes and flues came out just fine, with no problems with sludge - nice clean boiler.  Amazing what proper water management and blowdowns will do for a boiler Wink

Is she due for some shop time?

765 went through a 1472-day inspection this past winter/sprng. They wanted to renew the boiler so they will be good to go until nearly 2030.

As for excursions, their website only lists a weekend excursion June 11th/12th.

I don't think that they can publically announce something 2 or even 3 months beforehand this year since they have to plan everything in advance with NS, and NS could cancel anytime, with "21st Century Steam" being gone and all.

Others, I'm sure, will know more.

I  herd from someone saying the trip is going to happen they just have not anounced it yet.

So after the Chicago runs will the 765 be out again? I know she is no longer part of the ns steam program, but  was hoping to see her out and about again this summer. Is she due for some shop time?

Certainly glad to  have ridden behind her last year Youngstown to ashtabula with that line probably seeing some hard times with the closing of the coal dock.
