fire 'em up and the whole house shakes!

No, that would be Gauge 1.  See the Fine Art Models GG1 and T1 ... or any of the several Big Boys at that scale.  Any bigger than that and you won't be inside the house to feel the shaking...

A 4-8-4 event as proposed will never happen (no big loss) but I would really like to see a similar SD40 event as proposed earlier in this thread.  Since just about everybody owned an SD40 variant, either new or second-hand, an incredible amount of variety would be involved.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Isn't there a GTW 4-8-4, number 6325 that is essentially operational at the Age of Steam Museum in Ohio that was run in the Ohio Central steam program? As I recall it is also a fairly petite northern.

Quite true.  I don't know the last time it was run but I've got a fun DVD called "Steam in Autumn" that has quite a bit of footage of 6325 on the Ohio Central.  A VERY good-lookin' machine!

I'm not a big diesel fan, but I have to admit the SD-40 is one of the great locomotives.  Who would have thought back in the 70's so many of them would still be around 16 years into the 21st Century.

If you want an SD-40 parade and festival, pay a visit to the Wheeling and Lake Erie.  They LOVE the things, and have said they'll take all they can get their hands on.

Well, if the pigs actually grow wings and start flying, if there ever is a 4-8-4 event in Spencer, it will have to have a name like "Northerns on the Southern".

Yes, I know. I won't quit my day job.

You know, I DID see an add for a Gauge 1 (isn't that G gauge, by the way?)  Big Boy several years ago.

Looked at the price and finally regained conciousness after being licked furiously by two very upset Basset Hounds.

I think I'll stick with O gauge for the nonce.
