My understanding is the Ft. Wayne group is planning a trip west next year(maybe) if they get near Rock Island/Davenport then the QJ's may come out. Again I understand that the QJ's are stored serviceable in Newton, IA inside a warehouse.

Thanks for the info, I was wondering why there hadn't been much mention of them lately.

Iowa Interstate no longer owns or maintains the QJs. They turned the engines over to a non profit group a couple of years ago.  Central States Steam.  I do not believe they have run since but presumably the IAIS remains steam friendly.

As far as I know they're only fired up for excursions or "photo-op" publicity purposes.

Are the 2 Chinese steam units owned by IIR kept "live"?  Or only fired up for excursion purposes?  I'd like to see one in action.
