The Pacific Southwest Railway Museum Association (PSRMA) in San Diego County, Calif. is pleased to announce its fall class for the position of Brakeman.
PSRMA is one of the largest non-profit operating railroad museums in California, operating vintage passenger trains over 14 miles of the San Diego & Arizona Eastern Railway in the scenic mountains of east San Diego County.
Qualified volunteer locomotive engineers, conductors and brakemen are needed to operated these trains for the public as a part of the 40-acre museum's interpretive program. Since the SD & AE Ry. is a commercial common-carrier railroad, all crew training is done in compliance with the requirements of the Federal Railroad Administration. Successful candidates will conduct their duties in accordance with established railroad practice including yard switching, train makeup and scheduled passenger operations, mostly on weekends. Additional training for those interested could lead to positions as Conductor and Locomotive Engineer.
Registration for the fall session, beginning October 17th, 2015, is being accepted now. Museum membership is required (visit PSRM.org). Only eight students will be accepted for each class, first-come, first-served. All "hands-on" training will be conducted on Saturdays at the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum Living-History & Train-Operation Center, Campo, Calif., 50 miles east of downtown San Diego. Additional training will be provided indoors at a convenient location.
