AT&SF Historical Archives?
Posted by JoeBlow on Sunday, January 25, 2015 2:46 PM

Did the Atichison Topeka and Santa Fe donate its historical archives when it merged with the Burlington Northern?

I know that other railroads have donated entire archives to museums and universities.

The reason I ask, is because I am interested finding out about local daily railroad operations in the southbay area of Los Angeles.

Assuming they weren't all trashed after the merger ( don't be surprised, it happens if the right person doesn't stop it) they may be in the possession of BNSF.  I'd ask them.

Barring that, I'd check with the California State Railroad Museum and any ATSF historic societys that may be around.

Just a suggestion.

A large portion, including a 3 story brick warehouse, was turned over to the Kansas State Historical Society in Topeka. Not everything was indexed. Not everything was saved, especially at the division level. (a pre-merger 1990 decision certain operating bubbas have slowly come to regret.)
