Trains Magazine award to speed Santa Fe 4-8-4 restoration
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Trains Magazine, the world’s largest railway publication and website, has presented its annual $10,000 preservation award to the restoration of a famous Santa Fe 4-8-4 steam locomotive built in 1944.The New Mexico Steam Locomotive & Railroad Historical Society will use the grant to purchase and install a modern 26L brake stand for Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe No. 2926 to comply with Federal Railroad Administration regulations. This part of the locomotive’s restoration includes the procurement of valves, components, plumbing, support structure, and testing. The material cost is $10,000.
