Record of B&O caboose colors
Posted by basementdweller on Monday, August 12, 2013 4:45 PM

Hi, I am part of a non-profit group that is restoring a static display B&O caboose. B&O #1939 an I5D caboose.

Today I started stripping some original windows and peeling down the layers of paint I thought it should be recorded. Hence this post.

The exterior colors for the window sashes  were a bright green (oldest), then a bright red, then finally a yellow (Chessie era).

Interior colors for the window sashes -  a dull red (oldest and possibly a primer) olive drab green, tan, bright green, then a seafoam green (Chessie ear).

Four original windows have be saved, the rest have been rebuilt exactly to match originals (morticed and tennon joints)

We will be repainting the windows the bright green inside and out. I will post the names of the colors were plan to use later (color names not infront of me right now) These will be colors that best match originals, (in our opinion).

Maybe this info can be of use to someone else out there taking on a similar project.
