I'm starting to like the northern pacific but i was wondering what would a NP 2-8-4 look like? my thought is like a NKP or  PM bark and would run it like its 4-8-4s but my other favorite type is the 2-10-4 but i have no idea what they would look like. any ideas would be nice

Interesting that you like the NP, but want to run some locomotives they forgot to purchase.  Many of us have done this but you would need to get the family resemblence to pull it off.  The pictures below might help you to decide on what modifications you need to make.  The NP did purchase the four aces (1111) a smaller built 4-8-4.  It was modified over the years and looked much like a normal NP locomotive in its last days of service.

I have always liked the Northern Pacific but had sold off my Z8 and A5 many years ago.  Two years ago, I started buying NP locomotives again and the family look is what you need to achieve if you want to make a 2-8-4 look at home.   The extra large headlight has to be installed along with other features and the NP had white tires on the drivers.   Notice how their domes are shaped on the 4-8-4's.  The largest articulated all had flying pumps on the smokebox door.   Most of the locomtives had large cabs and the A4, A5, Z7 and Z8 all had enclosed cabs.   Most of the 4-8-4's were in gray at one time or another.  They were a great railroad but not much attention has been made to the NP except for brass models.  Even the new Sunset Z6 imported recently last year was brass, but a less detailed model.

The NP used very large firebox because they burned a low grade coal.

Wow!, those are great looking engines. What scale are they and how much work did you put into them? I was thinking the fellow wanted to see some full size enignes like NKP 765, 763 or 759 or PM 1225 or 1223 (? at Grand Haven Michigan)

They are HO models but they are for references to him to see what the NP looked like.   He seemed to indicate he wanted to modify some other locomotives and these show the family look for the NP steam.
