On June 8th, the train moved west down the FRC to Roseville California and will proceed to Dunsmuir on the 9th for their Railroad days, June 11th,12th and 13th. The UP 1983 and 1996 will be on display also to represent Heritage units at the Railroad Days at Dunsmuir.
It was great to see the E9A and the WP GP20 on the train along with several WP cars and cabooses.

I see WP 841 next to the E9. I can smell hamburgers cooking!
What of the units other than the SD70's? Were any of them running? Why was the Geep cut in between the SD's? Did UP 951 run much during her time at Portola?
Nice pix.

Thanks. Only the 1983 and 1996 were running for the move to Roseville on the 8th and on to Dunsmuir the next day. This saves a lot of money in fuel for the museum. The 951 was not running at Portola or on the road.
Nice pix, CZ. I like the dramatic Wye shot. You had a nice bright day, probably somewhat warm.

Thanks for the comment. The Y is the probably the most recognizable area in the Feather River Canyon and it is famous for past pictures in Trains and other magazines. The other portion of the Y goes to the left which is north to Oregon and was the WP connection to the GN many years ago. The BNSF now uses that portion of the Y and the Union Pacific uses the right hand side the train is on.
It was windy but 70+ in the canyon. The light for a westbound in most of the canyon is good so the pictures turned out well. It was a fun trip with about 10 others pacing the train.
I have added the return pictures to the photobucket for the train south bound to Roseville from Dunsmuir. The UP 1996 Heritage unit led the train south bound with the UP 951 E9A behind the SD70Ace.
Thanks for looking
