To learn more about the SP&S 700, and the OR&N 197(Oregon Railroad & Navigation 4-6-2 #197, later part of the Union Pacific system) go to www.orhf.org The SP&S 700, still gets some track time, and was used in December for one weekend of the Holiday Express excursions.
The OR&N 197 is currently under restoration, I haven't heard of an expected date of completion or return to service, but they do plan on returning her to full steam service, not just a cosmetic restoration.
Both locomotives are part of the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation (ORHF) along with the Former SP 4449, all three of which are OWNED by the city of Portland, OR.To the best of my knowledge the ORHF's new home is a done deal, but there is a LOT of work to be done before moving to the new location, scheduled I believe for some time in 2012.

May your flanges always stay BETWEEN the rails
Hi! I was watching a train video from the late 1990's and was wondering what happened to some of the lesser known locomotives, such as SP&S 700, and there was a former SP 4-6-2. We seem to hear about 4449 and the UP locomotives alot and even SF 3751. I just am curious about some of the lesser known engines. Maybe someone can provide a list of where engines are and what is going on with them.
