NHRS convention in Scranton PA

I was going to volunteer to help for some of the trips, but it turns out that there will be a new arrival in the family at about the same time, so I guess I'll have to miss it. 

Then, again, working on a train full of railroad experts might not be a pleasant experience.

I'll have to check with my  inside contacts afterwards to see how it went.

Hope Scranton is ready. They got some mean people in the NRHS.

I did eventually find what I was looking for in the way of more info.

They advertised it wrong, in my opinion.

 In the ad in Dec. 09 TRAINS magazine It says in big bold red letters" Feel the rumble... see the steam... NRHS Convention at STEAMTOWN"  Just like that.

To me that inplies it will be held AT steamtown, not near Steamtown, not to a visit to Steamtown, and not just in Scranton .

I checked the website frequently through the winter then gave up as it contained no info on the convention. Untill I checked it now and found the right buttons to push to get the right info. Sometime they upgraded it.

I live close enough I could make day trips every day, and already visit Steamtown often just to watch them play with the trains.

To get all the information, you need to click on the registration book link.  The National Railway Historical Society holds a convention nearly every year.  The organization is 75 years old, and this is most likely the 70th convention.  A few were missed in the early years and during World War II. 

 A convention usually highlights the railroad attractions in the area of the host city.  While Steamtown's museum, archives and trains will be part of the convention, it isn't a week of Steamtown trains.  The Delaware Lackawanna, the Electric City Trolley Museum, Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees, Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour, Pioneer Coal Mine, Stourbridge Railway, Canadian Pacific, Reading and Northern, Wanamaker, Kempton & Southern RR are among the participating railroads and attractions.  I'm sure I'm missing some.  The host hotels are practically full.  The last I heard, they have a lot of Wednesdays and Thursdays available, but not the entire block for the week.

Membership in the NRHS might not be mandatory to attend, but public sales of the tickets are usually only available as the convention nears, and members take the lion share of available tickets.  It is one of the benefits of membership and early registration. 

2011's convention will be held in Tacoma, WA.  Very likely the 2012 convention will be in Cedar Rapids, IA.

HI guys

I have seen in the Trains magazine an advertisement for the NRHS 2010 Convention to be held in Scranton with ties to Steamtown National Historic Park {i.e. page 10 of the 12/2009 edition and contimuing through current} with a  web address of endlessmountainrails.com and a link to their facebook page for information. Seems that they want you to join the NHRS first for any info?

Steamtown claims they do not know what I am talking about when I call for information.

The  NRHS pages seem to tell little about it except that it is in Scranton, Pa....but if not at Steamtown..then where?

There are supposed to be trains of all kinds rolling in including "local Steam engines" and various Diesels.

There are listings for various excursions, but no info on where these leave from?

Does anyone know what I am talking about and have info?
