UP 844 & 1989 in Denver?
Posted by Texas Zepher on Friday, October 2, 2009 9:04 AM

Does anyone know why the UP executive fleet pulled by the 844 and backed up by the 1989 are in Denver?   They showed up yesterday.  The train is on tracks 3 & 4 at Union Station in a different orientation than they normally put it when they get here.  The 844 has the cab exhibition stairs in place, but unlike normal the whole train is heavily guarded.

There is nothing about this on the UP steam schedule web site.

The UP STEAM train ,UP 844, was in Denver to attend a Police Convention. This was the reason given for this trip on another well known website.

Here is the website for that Police Chief convention that is apparently still in session:

If they have the entire UP Executive Fleet with them, that would be about 50 cars!

Seriously, this is UP's participation in the convention of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.  It is not a public event, therefor there has not been much publicity about the trip.

The International Assn of Police Chiefs has there convention in Denver. Some of them were bussed to Cheyenne to ride the train down to Denver. The train was split and was used for lodging and meetings. The train returned to Cheyenne Monday
