765's Track Speed?
Posted by Dampfmann on Monday, June 8, 2009 8:33 AM
Can anyone who was present during 765's recent excursions please answer the following question: What was 765's maximum speed on the runs between North Judson and LaCrosse? I've seen several videos posted on YouTube and my guess is 25-30 mph. I keep hoping she will one day get to blast down the mainline of a Class I at 70+ mph as she often did earlier in her excursion career. Martin

From what I was told, track speed was in the 15-20 MPH range. While some of NJ's mainline looks good (decent ballast profile, welded rail) there are a few slow-order locations that limited 765's speed.

It is Class 1 track. 10 mph for freight and 15 mph for passenger trains.

We did not exceed 15 mph on those runs. There were no slow orders in effect anywhere. There is a permanent 10 mph speed restriction in LaCrosse.

I hope you guys have fun at Trainfest, its great to see 765 back in steam. I took my son to see 4449 in Spokane, Wa and the look on his face was priceless. Please keep up the good work so all generations can see "how it was".

Highball....Train looks good device in place!!
