It reminded me of those cartoons where the guy sits on a branch hes sawing off. He seemed to prefer to ask for assistance on e-bay. Was buying this stuff considered as receiving stolen property? Hmmm..I avoid e-bay as I have heard similar tales...

It is the way the Law looks at it in Canada, but I think there is a lot of latitude in terms of who gets the slap and time in the slammer over a charge and conviction.  For petty stuff, likely there won't be anything except a warning, but for items valued at $5K or more, the purchaser is deemed to have had the duty to learn more and/or to know better.  A MSRP $600 DSLR that one might buy for $80 to "help" buddy out is going to raise some eyebrows, but probably only a forfeiture of the item would result.  Speedy justice, and you're out the $80. Big Smile  But a boat and trailer assessed by an underwriter @ $26K coming to either of us for a mere $2K, and done on some secluded country road at sundown....weeeeelll...see....that's kinda iffy....... Mischief

This does not qualify for a Darwin Award as this award is only awarded posthumously (when the receipient has demonstrated that he has removed himself from the gene pool).. Our hapless curator is apparently still very much alive..

Yes, but unless he gets conjugal visits, the net effect will likely be the same..?  Big Smile

It wasnt intended as a literal reference but one that suggests a wacky variant of self preservation run amok. Call it a tragicomedy.

Well normally in these situations the defense is either:

1. I'm not responsible because I have a disease (alcohol, gambling addict, drug addict etc.) and can't control my actions.

or

2. I was abused as a child.

or a combination thereof.
