Can anyone identify the appliance between the commonwealth truck (length wise) on the Engineer's side on CNR U-2-g Northerns? It has pipes that run up to the top of the Vanderbuilt tender and appears to be some type of steam condenser.
Many thanks
P.S. I would like to post a photo of it but do not know how to contact the administrator for permission?
I'm not familiar with the CNR engine you mention but my top of head guess is that it was a supply line to a steam coil that prevented water in the tender from freezing during the severely cold Canadian winters.

.
Many thanks for the explanation.
Just curious, why does the stoker engine need a condenser if there is no attempt to collect the water? Simply a matter of being able to control where the water goes?
Thanks again.
