I was looking through the pages of an old issue of Trains recently, and in the Railroad News Photos section was a photograph of a UP Challenger in North Platte Yard in December 1966.
The number is a MW number, 900079. The thing still had its elephant ears and is fully under steam in 1966. Amazing!
Anyone have any idea what the actual road number of this Challenger was?

It has also been painted in the two-toned grey (Greyhound) paint scheme as of June 1st. The first time I was up in it, it was black and silver.

UP Challenger 3977 also wore cab number 3710, when she was oil fired, different #'s but the same Locomotive at different points in her service life.
