Rio Grande steam freight
Posted by Thechief66 on Monday, August 18, 2008 10:52 PM

I was in Monte Vista CO on Saturday & in the little yard there sat 2-8-0 #18 with a caboose. Of course we stopped to check it out & I talked to the fireman who said that on Friday, #18 hauled a regular revenue freight train of fertilizer (chemical, not organic!!)from Antonito to Alamosa. How cool is that?! There's got to be someone who got some photos of that-has anyone seen them anywhere?

Yes, that's right. Sorry-I should have been more specific. I also got a kick out of it because my wife & I rode behind the same engine about 10 or 12 years ago on the Grand Canyon railway.
