I'm new to the forums and I did a quick search but I didnt find very much about this particular engine so I thought I would shed some extra light on it. Weighing in at a modest 151,000 lbs this switcher is furnished with equipment normally only used on mainline locomotives. Piston valves, Walschaert valve motion, and superheaters are among the "luxurious" features of the 353. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

Luxurious features found on virtually every locomotive of any size built after 1915 - including literally hundreds of USRA design 0-6-0 and 0-8-0 switchers (except for the Baker valve motion, which was superior in many respects to Walschaerts.)
I'm pretty sure that if someone had decided to build a modernized Mason bogie loco in the 1920s it would have had piston valves, outside valve gear and a superheater - and probably a feedwater heater as well.
