I'm not sure how many people know about the devastating fire that destroyed the Tehachapi Depot on June 13, 2008. Restoration work on the Depot had been going on for over a year, and was almost complete. Articles about the fire can be found at the Tehachapi News web site http://www.tehachapinews.com/home/ViewPost/65302 This 104 year old building is a historical landmark, not only for the town of Tehachapi, but for railroad history.
Although the building was insured, total damages are over $1 million and far exceed the potential payout by insurance. I'm asking for donations from the public. Any amount would be helpful. The Friends of the Tehachapi Depot is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization so all donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Make checks payable to Friends of the Tehachapi Depot and send to P. O. Box 2044, Tehachapi, CA 93581.
Thank you for your assistance,
