Southern #630 ?
Posted by Opus17ech on Thursday, January 24, 2008 11:02 AM

Does anyone have any current info on TVRM's rebuild of Southern 2-8-0 #630?

Thanks!

TVRM is making progress... we might expect to see some steam on the gauge later this year or next, the guys in Chattanooga tell me. Jim Wrinn

Thanks for the update. The TVRM newsletter has occasional snippets (I'm a member from afar), but not much more.

Unfortunately, I interpret "might" to mean "if nothing significant goes wrong / not as expected". And "see some steam on the gauge" probably means "get within six months or a year of actual operation". Patience patience!

I was told it might be a year or two before it was operating. They also "hinted" that a donation for the engine would be nice. I have sent $100 and plan to send $100-$200 more soon, even though it probably won't do much.

They said if anyone wants to donate send them a check made out to "TVRM #630 Restoration" or something like that.

I don't know if this info is correct: Here are the notes for Southern Railway No. 630, a 2-8-0 located in Chattanooga, TN

Went to the museum March 21st, and she is up and running on the weekends only.

 Found this on www.Steamlocomotive.info.

Nope, it's wrong. The locomotive is still sitting without wheels. When I saw her in February, she was at least a year away from completion.
