Did the 587 ever wear a USRA 6 Chime during Excursion service? Could it be that freaky but cool whsitle it wore on the run between Indianapolis & Cutler Indiana?

Last thing I heard (2006) was that the engine was partially disassembled and stored (mostly) indoors, while the tender was sitting outside of their shop, uncovered. The project was waiting for a $200,000 grant, which apparently never materialized.

I have little hope to see this engine run again, unless the ITM gets a MAJOR infusion of money. With a recession looming large on the horizon, I don't see that happening for a decade.

I'm seeking info on the restoration progress on the Nickel Plate 2-8-2 #587! If you know any info, please post.
