Earlier this month we passed through Willits, CA. Willits is in Northern California on US 101; it is the eastern terminus of the "Skunk Train" (which we did not ride) and junction with the out-of-service Northwestern Pacific. There is a museum there called the "Roots of Motive Power" on Commercial St., a few blocks east of the NWP grade crossing.
In addition to sawmill/logging relics, there are several pieces of vintage rail equipment there; they also have a relatively new engine shed with a nicely restored NWP caboose inside, among other equipment. There are some short running tracks in the area; I don't know if these tracks physically connect with the NWP.
