Steamtown

I was thinking about going to the Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, PA.  According to their website the Visitor Center, Theater, and Technology Museum are closed for repairs.  Should I wait until the repairs are completed?

The NKP PA should be on temp display up there currently.  That would make a trip up there worth it right now.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Harrisburg to Scranton is a two hour drive.  I'd go just to go.  It's not like it's a several day vacation trip.

Thanks.  I realize it isn't far but I have put it off for 20 years so if those attractions are worthwhile I can wait a little longer.

The NKP PA is only going to be displayed there a short time before the D-L moves it to their shops.  So if you want a very easy chance to see it, I'd go in the immediate future.

Anything else?  That's up to you.  Tee trolley ride is neat, and so is the coal mine tour and anthracite museum.

Well, I'd have more interest in the NKP PA if it was in the original colors.  Smile

I was trying to find out what was in the Visitor Center and Theater.  Apparantly the Technology Museum has opened since I first asked the queation.  I haven't been there and don't know what is in those buildings.

Been a few years, but the visitor center basically had the ranger info station and a set of bathrooms?   Theater is what you'd expect - a theater that showed a short film.

You don't even have to pay to go there.  (just if you partake in a train ride if they are running that day).

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Thank you.  At my age the bathrooms are important!  I suspect they have that covered someplace else.

Theater is what you'd expect - a theater that showed a short film.

I did figure out that the film is titled "Steel and Steam" which may be of interest to me.

From their website:

Head upstairs to the second floor of the Visitor Center and follow signs for the Theater to watch "Steel and Steam." To reach the secor floor, visitors have the option of stairs or elevator.

This orientation film explores the history of steam locomotives and the anthracite railroad while following a young child's journey into adulthood through their love of trains and working in the railroad industry.

I tried calling to find out when it may open and didn't get anywhere.  I think I am going to plan to go later in the summer.  If it is open great.  If not it doesn't sound like I will be terribly dissappointed.

I appreciate your help.

Isn't the main reason you go to Steamtown to see the steam locomotives?
