C&O #1309
Posted by Krokodil on Monday, October 1, 2007 8:44 AM

Hi

I joined the forum after several years of break.

Last month I took this picture in Baltimore. Can anybody help me with the explanation of these things on the #1309.

Thank you!

When I attempted to view the photo I got a screen with German language requiring registration.  There are other websites (Railpictures.net I believe is one) where people can view posted photos without having to register.

If the photo cannot be posted to such a site, perhaps "Krokodil" could dsecribe the parts of the locomotive of interest to him.  I do know that C&O #1309 is a true Mallet 2-6-6-2.  It is Class H-6 and was the last of ten such locomotives built in 1949 by Baldwin in Philadelphia.  They were the last steam locos built for C&O and the last steam locos built by Baldwin for a US railroad.
