Earlier this month we passed through Willits, CA. Willits is in Northern California on US 101; it is the eastern terminus of the "Skunk Train" (which we did not ride) and junction with the out-of-service Northwestern Pacific. There is a museum there called the "Roots of Motive Power" on Commercial St., a few blocks east of the NWP grade crossing.
In addition to sawmill/logging relics, there are several pieces of vintage rail equipment there; they also have a relatively new engine shed with a nicely restored NWP caboose inside, among other equipment. There are some short running tracks in the area; I don't know if these tracks physically connect with the NWP.
That's a place I would really like to get to. In addition to rail and logging they also have such things as Bucyrus Erie shovels.
Here is their home page

And here is their roster of equipment. This is a fine website.
