BNSF locomotives traveling thru Berea, OH on June 11
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, June 12, 2006 7:42 PM

Please tell me about these 'new' BNSF locomotives. Yesterday afternoon at Berea, OH, a CSX westbound with three CSX engines was hauling two freshly painted BNSF engines: # 5993 & 5990. I am brand new, but can someone tell me if these are recent overhauls? If so, where are they coming from, and where are they going. Do they belong to BNSF and CSX was only delivering them. Are they GE or EMD?

For me, it was a beautiful site to see these big orange guys. thanks.

The two locomotives you saw, 5993 and 5990, are brand spakin' new GE ES44AC's. Not sure where they are coming from, but I guess CSX was just transporting them to BNSF or a jct. with another RR to take to them.

Thanks, guys.
I had a notion they may have been brand new locos as I did find out afterword from the bnsf web site, they were painted in the new BNSF colors. Perhaps they are coming from GE in Erie.

Here, I live in Cleveland all my life, and it takes a visit to Peekskill, NY to find a guy at the Peekskill Inn, whowas visiting from CT just to watch trains on both sides of the Hudson River from the Bear Mtn. Bridge to tell me Berea, OH is one of the best spots for rail fans.

Now to check out the other nearby Ohio locations, then others as we travel.

Well if they are heading westbound they may have came of GE plant in ERIE PA that is what i think.
